McChlery House

The McChlery House sits on an incredible lake front site which is adjacent to the Hilton Hotel in Queenstown. The house steps down the sloping site, split into three levels to maximise north facing views.

We relied on Katrina and Alister to supervise the build in our absence and had no difficulty in liaising with them via the internet about various decisions. The builder was very impressed with Alister and Katrina and the quality and detail of their plans which he found very easy to work with.

Large sliding doors allow for a seamless transition from the open plan kitchen, dining and living area to the outdoor terrace entertainment zone where an open fire awaits.

Katrina and Alister did an outstanding job designing our house for us; we liked their design philosophy and, in working through the design, we felt they struck a pleasant balance between aesthetic goals and practical and budgeting requirements for the home.

The house is constructed mainly from in-situ concrete walls with dark cedar cladding and movable screens. These enable the occupants to alter the façade, controlling the sunlight and privacy as needed.
